"Sokk og Rokk" in Saida

A wonderful winter spinning day

After the trip to Iceland, some unspun wool found its place in the luggage. Today, it was time to start spinning... This wool is coming from the "Moraud" breed (sorry no Islandic fonts at my computer).

The nice photo of sheeps is borrowed from an Islandic blog that does not have a name.

It was a funny wool to spin, it has beautiful intermingling colours and it gets a little "chunky" when one spins it.

Hopefully two threads 100gr. will be finished today.

Sokk og Rokk Conquering Iceland !

Country: Iceland
City: Reykjavik
Location: The Handknitting Association of Iceland - Shop
Why?: To buy a spindle

What did we end up doing?: Uhhh ......

Håndtein? Spindle? Jauuu, jauuu, an old man is making drop spindles and he delivers them here, said the shop keeper with a big smile. ..." But I dont know how to use them, do you?" she added.

That was all it took so that TrondE started a demonstration (and a lecture, history, use, size, weight, material, quality.... )

In few seconds, the customers started gathering, watching the 2 aliens: one demonstrating and the other taking photos... But we ended up bay mking new friends.

A special young (cute) enthousiastic girl was very much interested in learning. She followed the demonstration attentively. We are sure that, after we left, she bought herself a drop spindle, and she is practising hard by now :)... and she is enjoying it too :)
Hello from us here in Norway !

A souvenir photo for our blog? Jauuu, jauuu

"Under Brua" Festival - "Sokk og Rokk" was there!

This year, we were invited as "festival artists" to the "Under Brua" rock festival in Hamar. We took, each his own "rokk" spinning wheel: Gilbert and George and we headed there, right next to the Viking Ship arena. We have been spinning for around 7 hours yesterday and god knows how long we will spin tonight... Nice atmosphere, lovely contact with people, and for sure a clear message to get people back to use their hands :)

Gilbert and George

Hurra !!! Finally, our second spinning wheel has arrived from New Zealand. It is a little celebration here as we waited for quite a long time for this arrival. Although the design is called Suzie Pro, we needed to distinguish the two wheels from each other: we can't have 2 Suzies standing next to each other. We baptised the wheels as: Gilbert and George and we are very satisfied with the names.

Med jentene på Toten - With the Girls from Toten

No, not the same "jentene på Toten" that you are thinking of, but Anne Margrete (from Toten) invited for a spinning evening in her cottage.

It was nice to see the girls after a long time. They have been spinning for a while now and we are so curious to see what they are doing. Besides, we know they have some sheeps and they have just bought 2 mohair goats.

TrondE showed his "Art Spindles". It is always exciting to see how people react when one is doing something new especially if one is putting a part of oneself in his work.

To spin in plein air, listening to the waves, while you have an unbelievable sight over "Mjøsa", the biggest lake in Norway, is a positive experience. Not to mention the salmon rice of Oleman, the freshly baked bread of Anne Margrete and the freshly picked norwegian strawberries.

Hurra...en gledens dag...

For fem uker siden bestilte vi nye rokker, og nå har den første kommet. Det er en gledens dag. Den har reist langt, helt fra New Zealand.
Men har man først prøvd en rokk som denne, ja da blir man bare glad.

A new yarn...ett nytt garn "Granskjegg"

Dette garnet tillegner jeg Ruth og det har fått navnet "Granskjegg". Ideen til dette garnet kommer fra granskjegg og fra Ruth som sier: Det er så greit med oss som bor oppi skauen....

The Start

We got to start somehow and somewhere, and here we go !
Just got hooked into something called spinning. No, we are not talking about the exercising machine that replaces the bicycle but about spinning yarn.

We have just ordered 2 spinning wheels that have to do the trip from New Zealand to Norway, while we are waiting ! and God knows how clever we are in waiting !!! Meanwhile, we are practicing using one (old) Holland spinning wheel that was offered for our "Dignity" project in Lebanon, and on another wheel that we borrowed from Spinnvilt.

Dear readers and friends,
In this blog, we hope that we will be able to share with you our passion for spinning, fibers, textiles, colours, patterns, designs, plus many other exciting things.....
